Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Television technology had already been developed before World War II and the first broadcasts in the U.S. had begun in 1939, but television sets were not affordable for most Americans until the post-war "boom" years, when families had more expendable income for such luxury items.

A new television set was often given pride of place in the living room, where families gathered to watch favorite shows like "The Jack Benny Program", "The Lone Ranger", and "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet".

The Lindbergh family of Minneapolis proudly documented their new T.V. set in this 1950 photograph.
