The Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) was formed on May 14,1942, and was renamed the Women's Army Corps (WAC) on July 3, 1943. Intended to free up male soldiers for theaters of battle, the WACs had more than 90,000 enlistees by June 1945. The WAAC standard issue clothing items--including the undergarments pictured here--consisted of no fewer than 84 separate items, from leather dress gloves to hard rubber combs.
