Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Male veterans becoming students at the University of Minnesota

The end of the war saw a large influx of non-traditional students on college campuses across the country as newly returned World War II veterans began to take advantage of the G.I. Bill of Rights to resume their education.

The University of Minnesota campus had record numbers of students in the post-war years. This photograph shows former G.I.'s heading to classes in 1946.
