Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Air view of University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, 1945

Like college campuses across the United States, the University of Minnesota experienced a surge in the student population as returning veterans grabbed the opportunity for education offered by the GI Bill. This aerial view postcard shows the University campus as it looked in 1945, before temporary housing and classroom buildings were added to accommodate the new students, many of whom were married with children.
