Aluminum eating utensils used by Donald S. Frederick while a POW

Americans held as German prisoners of war subsisted in difficult conditions, living in unheated barracks and often going without proper nourishment.

These aluminum utensils were carried on a 500-mile forced march and used by Donald S. Frederick while a POW at various camps in Germany from November 1943 until his liberation in the spring of 1945. The Nazi insignia stamped on the back of each handle is clearly visible in the detail view.
