"War Gardens For Victory"

With many food items rationed during World War II, nearly 20 million Americans turned to the soil to supplement their food supplies with home-grown fruits and vegetables. These "Victory Gardens," promoted by the federal government through posters like this one, produced about 40% of all produce consumed by Americans during the war.
