The Japanese surrender on August 14, 1945 signaled the end of World War II, and brought tremendous joy and relief to the home front. Some Minnesotans went to church to thank God for the long-awaited peace, while others, like this crowd in downtown Minneapolis, took to the streets to celebrate victory.
