An enthusiastic crowd welcomed the World War II veterans home

A crowd of family, friends, and supporters gathered at Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport at 10:30 p.m. to welcome the Honor Flight veterans home. Some held signs, others waved flags, and cheers and whistles filled the terminal as the first vets appeared around the corner.

Ken Fritz called the receptions he experienced on the Honor Flight "A welcome home after all these years..." Most veterans of World War II, contrary to popular belief, did not return home to brass bands and parades, but to quiet reunions with their loved ones, and to somber reflections of friends lost.
