Bathing at Wildwood

Just as they are today, amusement parks were popular destinations in the Twin Cities during the 1920s and 1930s. Some parks, like Wildwood Amusement Park on White Bear Lake, were built by the Twin City Rapid Transit Company on the streetcar lines to encourage people to ride.

Wildwood had been a favorite spot for picnics and swimming since the 1880s. The amusement park opened about 1898, after its acquisition by the streetcar company. The amusements closed down in 1932, with the Wildwood Park dance pavilion remaining open until 1938.
