The Wood Lake area of Richfield was a popular location for the building of homes in the 1940s and 1950s. This aerial view of Wood Lake, taken in 1952, shows new tract housing developments.
The Wood Lake Nature Center was established in 1971, and the area became one of the first urban natural recreation areas in Minnesota.
