Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Wood Burning Stove

Despite advancements in other applicances, most stoves were still wood-fired well into the 20th Century. Wood stoves needed only timber to burn, whereas gas and electric stoves depended on utility connections for fuel. As this infrastructure expanded, wood stoves gradually fell from favor. This stove was manufactured by the Wrought Iron Range Company, which supplied stoves to many state agencies in the 1920s, including the Women's Reformatory in Shakopee, the State Prison at Stillwater, and the Minnesota Soldiers' Home in Minneapolis.
